Play The Triad's Only Nicklaus Design Championship Golf Course
Along the banks of the Yadkin River just off I-40 in Clemmons, NC lies an oasis for golf, recreational activities and elegant living. A secluded hideaway where refined luxury gracefully blends with a warm, family-friendly atmosphere. It's easy to see why Salem Glen Golf & Country Club is one of the premier golf facilities in central North Carolina.
The club's centerpiece is the extraordinary 18-hole championship course, awarded four stars by Golf Digest's Best Places to Play 2006/2007. As the Triad area's One and Only Nicklaus Design course, Salem Glen continues the legendary Nicklaus tradition of accentuating and amplifying the beauty of the natural terrain. The layout takes full advantage of the 150 feet of elevation changes, four and a half miles of creeks and nine lakes. With two distinct nines, the course offers fun and excitement for players of all skill levels.
You’ll also enjoy a spectacular 24,000 square foot clubhouse, which offers both casual and fine dining, member's bar and lounge, ballroom and the Legends Room for business meetings or private dining, along with spacious terraces and patio overlooking the golf course. We're a popular choice for golf outings, banquets, parties, receptions and special events of all kinds. You need not be a member to enjoy these amenities, but you'll be treated like one!
Why is Salem Glen Golf & Country Club considered one of the premier golf destinations in central North Carolina? For starters, we're the Triad area's only Nicklaus Design golf course. We’ve gained the prestigious ranking of four stars by Golf Digest's Best Places to Play 2006/2007. And we have been home to the Women's Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Championship, NCAA Women's East Regional Championship, Conference Carolinas Golf Championships and the Tear Drop Tour.
The excellence of Salem Glen is evident not only in its overall layout, but also in the most intricate details. It features Bermuda fairways and G2 bent grass greens, the same as those found on the legendary Pinehurst No. 2. The fully automatic irrigation system is state of the art.
Salem Glen is first and foremost a course designed for players who love the game, from expert to novice. With five sets of tees, the track ranges from 4,816 yards from the front tees to a full 6,810 yards from the back tees. Experienced players will continually find risks and rewards, yet the course is designed to have the ultimate playability for those still learning the game. The design assures enjoyable play round after round, while its craftsmanship reveals its intricacies the more you play it.
Thanks to the Nicklaus Design group and PGA Tour Professional, Glen Day, Salem Glen plays almost as if it were two courses. The front nine is a links-style layout. The fairways are open and flat, and there's several water hazards coming into play. Five holes of the front nine are set in the Yadkin River basin. The most dramatic of them is the signature fourth hole, a 566-yard par 5, which calls for an elevated tee shot that must avoid a meandering creek to the left of the fairway and trees to the right.
The back nine holes are mountain-style rife with dramatic elevation changes. Most of the fairways are tree lined. From the tee box, No. 13 is a breathtaking par 4 where your tee shot must carry a 70-foot deep ravine. Fourteen is a par 5 playing back over the ravine to a long, shallow green cut into the hillside. The four closing holes are the toughest on the course, as they should be. No. 17, a par 3 flanked by creeks in front and behind the large green, is a player favorite. The course closes with a par 4 where golfers may bail out right hoping to bounce their ball close to the green or carry the bunkers fronting the sloping green.
Overall, Salem Glen is a picturesque, playable jewel of a golf course that takes full advantage of its unique setting and abundant acreage. You'll relish every shot and every hole. In fact, most first-timers leave the course tingling from all those "wow" moments.
